WHC Members need your donations
WHC members Erica Robinson and Matt Armitage are both
putting their bodies on the line after the current hockey season
finishes, all in aid of charity. In April, Erica will be running the
London Marathon in aid of the Injury Minimization Programme for
Schools (I.M.P.S.) , based at the John Radcliff Hospital in Oxford.
Please support Erica with any donation, however small, by going to
http://www.justgiving.com/ericarobinson.
Matt will be taking part in a 3 Peaks Challenge with a
difference....not only does he intend to climb the highest peaks in
England, Wales and Scotland, but he will cycle the 450 miles between
them. He will be will be doing this all in aid of Cancer Research,
and you can generously donate at
http://www.justgiving.com/Matt-A-and-Chris-T.
Please help both Erica and Matt if you can - any donation, however
small, will help to motivate them during their training in the cold
and wet mornings. Best of luck to you both!
2009/10 Season so far
WHC have already hosted a number of events so far this
season the the curtain raiser being the annual Club Day where more
than 60 people took part in a number of matches throughout the day.
This was the follow up the the grand pitch opening in the 2008/09
season and once again proved to be a great success. Since then
40 Club members made the trip to Jongleurs comedy club in Oxford for
an entertaining evening. With a number of socials lined up
before Christmas including the Bavarian Night and the Christmas
Party we are sure to finish the year in style.
Sponsorship
The Club is actively looking for sponsorship, if you
know anyone / any companies that might be interested then please let
Tim know by emailing
wallingfordhc@gmail.com. Sponsorship varied from fixture
card adverts, pitch side banners or kit sponsorship.
WHCCC v B&UCC
Thursday 2nd July saw WHCCC take on B&UCC for their
third annual match at Blewbury. The team consisted of: Andy
Barber, Matt Clamp, Mike Latham, Chris Debney, Sean Millard, Matt
Armitage, Tim Chamberlain, Tim Atkins, Alun Lloyd, Rich Pool and
John Philips. The home team won the toss and decided to bat
first, wickets started to fall from the start with great pressure
built by good fielding. Blewbury ended up setting a total of
85 to win having been bowled out in the 15th over. WHCC ended
up chasing down the total in the 14th over with only 3 wickets down
including great knocks from Andy and John.
Club Day 2008 a Great Success
a huge thanks to everyone who came along on Sunday 14th September to
our 1st annual Club day. We hope that you all enjoyed the day as
much as we did and that the club spirit that was definitely in the
air will be around for the rest of the season!
We made a good start on this year's fundraising taking £110 in the
socials area, £617 for the pig roast and bouncy castle and £380
behind the bar which goes to the Trust. It has been noted that as a
club we spent almost £1000 on food and drink in an afternoon.... we
truly are athletes!
A message from Fon....
"What was great about the open/club day was that it was inclusive of
everyone, young and old, ranging from 5 years to 90 years which says
a lot about our club. I was particularly pleased to see ex club
members there either in a playing or guest capacity supporting our
day. A huge thanks go to: Kit, Mairi and Maggie for their efforts in
the food tent, Sam for help setting up, to Richard for sorting and
manning the beer tent and last but not least, to Rachel and Tim in
helping to organise, and for making sure things went smoothly on the
day"
We would also like to thank Fon for all her efforts in organising
the day and an extra big thanks to Bill for the pig. |
